What They're Saying About Unscarred

  • David Jahr, Book Reviewer

Robby writes an extraordinary journey that demonstrates his will to survive, despite the enormous odds against success. He brings the reader on the roller-coaster of his life, eventually finding answers to life's most important questions.

  • Stacy Kordis, MS, LMHC, NCC, CCMHC

The journey Robert has been through discloses a beautiful story of strength, courage and continued inspiration even in the darkest of times when he thought he lost it all. The strong foundation of recovery he has developed and continues to develop is inspirational!

  • Mary Taylor, M.Ed.

Robert tells an inspirational story of courage, strength, and resilience. While the autobiography discloses personal insight into the demons of addiction that exploit past traumas and prey on one’s insecurities, it also provides hope to escape the darkness. From that courageous little boy wandering the streets of NYC alone to the adventurous man traveling the world with his Lady Di, Robert’s journey has left him grateful and unscarred.

  • Laura Kelley, Delray Beach, FL

UNSCARRED is a riveting and powerful biography that chronicles Robert Carney’s struggle with addiction and his journey to recovery. The book offers a gritty, intense and compelling portrayal of the dark world of addiction and the distorted thinking of an addict. Robby’s description of craving, withdrawal and shame is poignant and illustrates the weight of his battle and the effect on not only himself but all the lives he touched. His story begins by detailing his childhood,  then reveals how his life completely unraveled as he progressed into full blown addiction.

The second half of his book focuses on his recovery through self help groups and spirituality. He emphasizes fellowship, determination and courage as the guiding force to freedom and a new life.

UNSCARRED held my attention from the first to the last page and is a must read! It offers identification and hope in this world of addiction.

  • Bob Posch

I met Robert in 1970-54 years later he gave an excellent toast at my 50th wedding anniversary...This book demonstrates how character can overcome adversity...If you suffer any addiction (drugs, alcohol, nicotine ,porn etc), you WANT to read this book...Uncompromisingly honest it sets out a life no one would envy...It concludes with a great marriage, creation of successful businesses and a bio of someone you will be proud of.

  • Diane C., Entrepreneur

I loved his story! Recovery changes everything.

  • Linda Honey, LADC, NCAC

The material goes deep, emotionally and intellectually. The book is full of heart, mind, joy and sadness. Robert Carney has achieved something unusually vivid, blending his observations of prison life, the steps that occurred to bring him to his bottom, and then the new steps he took to start a new way of life. As a substance abuse professional, and trainer in the world of drugs and alcohol, I was privileged to read this book. I appreciated the raw, honest journey. I highly recommend this book to those suffering with addiction to see that there is always hope no matter where your addiction has taken you. I also believe family members & friends can benefit from this read to better understand what is happening for those who are under attack from addiction.

ABOUT UNSCARRED

My greatest accomplishment in life, besides marrying Diane, is celebrating 32 years clean and sober, by the grace of God. It has not always been this way. From the age of 15 to 35, I had been on my own, a criminal, an active addict and alcoholic, in and out of many institutions; detoxes, rehabs, mental ward, jails and prisons. I’ve experienced homelessness and a sense of loneliness that no living soul should ever bear.

I have fought my way out of that hell. I’m not obsessed and craving a fix or waking up hungover and wondering what happened to my face and money, or counting years, months and days until the parole board. I will take you on a journey from being a traumatized young boy to becoming a violent criminal, hopeless addict and convict to the man I am today — grateful for taking it one day at a time.

About Me

Before I built up multiple moving companies, I fought for my life growing up on the streets of New York, while incarcerated in a maximum security prison and against the beast of addiction. Now with 32 years of being clean and sober, I help others find their way on the recovery journey, speaking and sponsoring those who want to achieve the best version of themselves.

Along the way, I learned a lot about life and myself. Eventually, I was able to retire from business and now live in Florida with my wife, and “soulmate,” Diane. I remain active in Twelve Step meetings, and volunteer in hospitals, institutions and various support groups. In my free time, I enjoy playing golf, yoga, writing and taking long walks on the beach while living one day at a time.
